Every woman holds the strength to reshape her world. When women unite, we become an unstoppable force for lasting change – for ourselves, our communities, and the generations to come.
‘My mother in particular has always inspired me to be as charitable as I can. Growing up, she was always fundraising or giving up her time to support different charities. So, in 1993 when the school I attended
here in Edinburgh, asked families if they would foster a child from war-torn Bosnia, both my parents immediately agreed to help.
Emina who was 13 at the time, had seen so many terrible things, some of which she talked about with us. The programme only ran for a few months, but it was enough to ignite an awareness in me, of the
suffering of so many women around the world. By supporting this charity Women for Women, you actively help one woman at a time. But by helping that one woman, you then help her family, and also her
children to improve their lives as well as their future.’ Gilly
Why Women For Women?
Their work began by connecting women survivors of war in Bosnia with supporters through letters and small acts of financial aid—simple gestures that brought hope, dignity, and sisterhood.
Today, that spirit lives on as they continue to help women in conflict-affected countries rebuild their lives. This mission resonates deeply with us because we believe in the power of connection, compassion, and empowering women to create brighter futures.
Stand With Her
We have been matched with an individual woman “Sister” from the DRC. She is a survivor of war and over the next year, we will be investing in her potential to transform her life. We will have the opportunity to send her messages of support, and she will develop essential skills to help her strengthen her voice, forge her future and share her newfound skills with her community.
Building Brighter Futures
Our sister will learn marketable job skills – such as tailoring, bread-making or poultry-keeping as well as business training to turn her chosen skill into a stable income. She can also begin to save her money.
She will learn about her rights on key issues like voting, access to land, divorce, custody of her children and domestic abuse. Once she learns her rights, she is empowered to stand up for herself.
Your Sister is Waiting, Stand With Her
Help a woman rebuild her life after surviving war and conflict. When you join Stand With Her, you’ll be matched with an individual woman in the programme. Your generous support provides her with a monthly stipend for essential needs, trade and business skills training, information on how to exercise her rights and most of all a sisterhood of healing.
