The coming together of Sophie Paterson and Gilly Nicolson: a shared appreciation for quiet luxury, a belief that true comfort lies in the detail, and a commitment to creating homes that feel effortlessly elevated.

For over seven years, Gilly Nicolson has worked closely with Sophie Paterson on many of her bespoke projects, providing exquisitely made bed linen and towels for some of her most admired spaces. Throughout this time, a deep understanding and trust naturally formed: Sophie’s eye for serene, layered interiors and Gilly’s dedication to craftsmanship, refinement, and personalisation. This new embroidered motif collection represents the evolution of that relationship, and the clarity that comes from designing with someone who understands your world intuitively.

Gilly says 'I can't quite explain how thrilled I was when Sophie approached us about collaborating, it felt like the greatest compliment, to our work. I have long admired her design and style which is not only incredibly beautiful but also timeless, and together with her careful curation of artisanal pieces, her projects are naturally world-renowned. I am inspired by her attitude to her profession and her team, who are also delightful to work with.

The Gilly Nicolson team have worked tirelessly to bring you these new collections. Our designers and embroiderers, led by Creative Director Sally Smith, have created an array of new embroidered motifs inspired by Sophie's projects and also the adventures of her gorgeous dachshund Pip! Every fabric and detail has been carefully considered from the Herringbone towel trim to our washbags made locally here in Scotland.

The Design Story

Each motif in the collection has been thoughtfully designed by Sally from the Gilly Nicolson design studio and personally selected by Sophie. Sally says “All of the inspiration for this collection has come directly from Sophie's interiors - calm elegance, thoughtful detail, with a timeless feel. Our brands share such similar values that the collaboration unfolded effortlessly, It's been a truly personal and fulfilling creative journey, and this is just the beginning.”

The creative inspiration draws from Sophie’s signature style: calm, textured interiors where craftsmanship, proportion, and softness combine. You’ll also find a subtle echo of the lyricism and movement seen in Sophie’s Fromental wallpaper collaborations. The motifs have the same sense of understated artistry, where pattern never overwhelms but rather enhances the architecture of a room.

Sophie says “Creating this collection has been such a joy. I couldn’t choose between all the motifs presented to me because I loved them all. Thankfully the Gilly Nicolson team were such a dream to collaborate with, they let us include every single one. I really hope you love the pieces as much as I do”.

The collection includes four embroidered collections including Pip & Paws, Tuscan Linen, Whispers of the Wild and Little Burrow. A home becomes truly personal through the smallest details. For this reason, Sophie has also selected a suite of monogram fonts that complement the new motifs, each chosen to bring a sense of individuality without compromising elegance.

Whether you prefer initials embroidered in soft tonal shades for subtlety, or something more pronounced to make a considered statement, the result is always thoughtful, bespoke, and deeply personal. These monograms can be applied across bed linen, towels, bathrobes and washbags.

The Skye and Iona Wash Bags: A Gift of Story and Place

Among the highlights of the collection are the Skye and Iona washbags. Named after the Scottish Islands, they take inspiration from landscapes where air and earth meet with a quiet strength. Crafted in soft wool herringbone and the distinguished Duke of Fife tartan, these pieces are tactile, warm, and full of heritage.

This launch marks only the beginning. More designs and further pieces are already in development, expanding the narrative of the collection and allowing clients to curate their spaces with an even deeper sense of identity and refinement.
