Snuggle Into Seasonal Serenity | Gilly Nicolson

gilly nicolson bed linen for autumn winter 2024

By Sally Smith

We have returned from a fantastic few days at Maison Objet. It proved to be a never ending source of inspiration. Although our products are not driven by trends as such, we do get inspiration from the colours, patterns and fabrics.

This is one of our favourite times of the year, as we make the shift into Autumn. We just love creating cosy retreats using luxury linens and mixing with other fabrics.  Soft, luxurious cottons, rich, earthy tones and elegant patterns add a touch of seasonal charm, creating a sanctuary where you can unwind in comfort and style.

The following suggestions are some of the styles, colours and fabrics we get asked for and see within our client projects, at this time of year.

Layering For Warmth & Style

  • Throws and Blankets: Drape a sublime cashmere or luxury pure new wool throw at the foot of your bed for extra warmth and texture. These elements are not only functional but also enhance the cosy feel of the room.
  • Layered Sheets: Consider layering a fitted sheet with a flat sheet, both in contrasting colours, for a more dynamic bed setup.
  • Add a quilt in a complementary colour or pattern over your duvet. This not only adds warmth but also creates a visually interesting, layered look.

High-Quality Down or Down-Alternative Duvets

Invest in a high-quality down or down-alternative duvet with a higher fill power for extra warmth during the colder months. We also offer an All Seasons duvet which allows you to popper together a low tog with a high tog duvet, giving you different options for all seasons.

Personalisation and Customisation

  • Bespoke Elements: Custom-made monogrammed bed linen, throws and towels allow for a truly unique bedroom that reflects your personal style.
  • Gallery Walls: A curated collection of personal photos, art, and decor pieces on gallery walls adds a deeply personal touch to the space.

Luxurious Fabrics

  • Velvet: Velvet cushion covers add a touch of luxury and warmth. This fabric feels indulgent and can be paired with other soft materials for a plush, layered look.
  •  Linen: While often associated with summer, heavier linen in deep, earthy tones works beautifully in autumn and winter. It’s breathable yet warm, offering year-round comfort.
  • Brushed Cotton: This soft and warm fabric is perfect for those who prefer a lightweight yet cosy option. Brushed cotton sheets offer a smooth texture that’s comfortable against the skin.

Seasonal Accessories

Incorporate a mix of cushions in different textures and fabrics, such as velvet, faux fur, or wool, to add depth and comfort to your bedding setup.

Rich Colour Palettes

  • Earthy Tones: Colours like rust, terracotta, deep greens, and mustard yellows evoke the natural beauty of autumn. These hues bring warmth and a grounded feel to the bedroom.
  • Deep Jewel Tones: Emerald, sapphire, and amethyst shades add a rich, opulent touch to bed linens, creating a sophisticated and cozy environment.
  • Classic Neutrals: For a timeless look, opt for warm neutrals like taupe, beige, or charcoal. These colours are versatile and can be easily layered with bolder accents.

Patterns and Prints

  • Plaids and Checks: Classic plaid or checked patterns are a staple for autumn and winter. They bring a traditional, homely feel to the bedroom, especially in rich, deep colours. Layer your bed with cushions and throws.
  • Botanical Prints: For a more modern look, opt for wallpaper and headboards with autumnal botanical prints, like leaves, branches, or florals in muted tones. Take elements from these and embroider them on your bed linen.
  • Textured Solids: If you prefer solid colours, look for bed linen with subtle textures like jacquard weaves or embroidered details to add interest without overwhelming the space.

Biophilic Design

  • Nature Integration: Bringing the outside in with plenty of greenery remains a key trend. Think large potted plants, hanging planters, and even green walls for a fresh, calming environment.
  • Natural Light: Maximizing natural light is crucial, with sheer curtains or minimal window treatments to allow as much light as possible, even during the shorter days.

These ideas focus on creating a bedroom space that is not only visually appealing but also enhances well-being, making it a true sanctuary during the colder months. Just get in touch if you are looking to enhance your linens.
